Si j’ai été calme ces temps-ci, c’est parce que je travaille sur mon prochain livre. Pas beaucoup de temps pour autre chose, alors je voyage dans ma tête et sur ma maquette. Elle est terminée et est partie en impression. Voilà. Je ne peux plus faire de corrections. Je suis très heureuse du résultat et vous en dirai plus très bientôt…
Il fait un temps magnifique à Paris en ce moment, et comme je travaille dur à mon bureau, j’en profite pour sortir me promener quand je peux, et redécouvrir un peu la ville – que j’ai tendance à souvent négliger. Vous savez, quand vous croyez connaître un endroit et que vous ne le regardez plus (cela vaut aussi pour les gens!)… Je me suis beaucoup promenée dans mon quartier, le Marais, dans la sublime place des Vosges, dans les petites rues autour de la rue de Bretagne. A chaque fois, je suis émerveillée de voir que des hôtels particuliers du XVII siècle sont encore debout – et bien debout ! Pour ça, Paris est unique. Je vous recommande vraiment d’aller marcher autour de la rue des Francs-Bourgeois pour réaliser à quel point cette ville est splendide.
J’ai aussi trié mes photos et j’ai retrouvé tout un tas d’images de signatures de livres, de travel talks, etc. Je ne peux pas croire que le temps a passé aussi vite, et que j’ai fait tellement de choses. Chez Louis Vuitton, chez Artcurial, entre autre – A Shanghai, Paris, Londres, entre autre aussi. J’ai l’impression que c’était hier que je publiais mon premier livre. Et quand on me demande si je suis moins excitée après le 10ème, je réponds toujours que non, que c’est toujours la même chose – en ce qui me concerne en tout cas. J’attends toujours la publication avec la même impatience et la même anxiété, comme si j’étais devant le sapin de Noël et que j’avais dix ans.
Voici quelque photos de ces derniers jours, en attendant un post plus long avec d’autres nouvelles. Sur ma page Facebook, je remercie les libraires qui s’occupent toujours si bien de mes livres. Merci à vous tous, encore et encore! Ah oui, et aussi, mon amie Elizabeth Wix m’a envoyé ce lien parlant d’une de ses cousines qui était cartographe… une des rares femmes, j’imagine, à faire ce travail à son époque – et avec autant de talent. Merci Elizabeth, j’ai adoré cette histoire.

Paris/France/the world – Travel in my head
If you haven’t heard anything from me recently, it’s because I’ve been busy working on my new book. Not much time for anything else so I’ve been travelling in my head and concentrating on my mock-up.This is now finished this now and has been sent to the publishers. So that’s it. I can’t make any more changes. I’m very pleased with the result (what I’ve seen so far). I’ll tell you more about it very soon.
The weather is fantastic here in Paris and as I’ve been working hard at my desk, I like to go out whenever I can to rediscover the city – something I so often tend to neglect. Often when you think you know somewhere well, you tend not to look at it any more (this can be the same for people too of course!). So I’ve been walking quite a lot around the area in which I live, the Marais district. The magnificent Place des Vosges and all those narrow streets around rue de Bretagne. I find it quite amazing to see that the 17th Century town houses are still standing – and in no danger of falling down either! This is something that makes Paris truly unique. I strongly recommend that you visit the area around rue des Francs-Bourgeois to really appreciate just how wonderful this beautiful city is.
I’ve also been sorting out my photos and found a lot of photos taken at book signings & travel talks – I can’t believe how quickly time has gone by nor that I was able to do so much.In Louis Vuitton and Artcurial – amongst others, in Shanghai, Paris, London – also amongst others – it seems as if it was only yesterday that I published my first book. Yet when I am asked whether it is less exciting after the 10th book, I always say no, and that, as far as I am concerned, the excitement remains the same. I always eagerly await the publication of each book with the same excitement and the same apprehension as when I sat around the Christmas tree at the tender age of 10.
Until I write a longer blog post with more news, here are a few photos taken last week. As you can see on my Facebook page, I am expressing my thanks to all the bookshops that always look after my books so well. Once again and again, a very big thank you to all of you! Oh yes, and also to my dear friend Elizabeth Wix who sent me this link about her mother’s first cousin, Cecily Peele, who was a cartographer – probably one of very few women who did this job, particularly at the time – and with such talent. Thank you so much Elizabeth, as I just loved this story.
