News & my wish for 2013

Cette semaine a été un peu folle parce que suis partie à Shanghaï faire un talk et signer mon nouveau livre « Escales autour du monde » (Louis Vuitton/Xavier Barral) Il n’est pas encore traduit en chinois (mais l’est en japonais). On verra dans quelques temps si la traduction en chinois se fait. En attendant, ce talk (en anglais) a été une expérience formidable. Je vous donnerai très bientôt tous les détails.

Comme toujours, vous trouverez dans la plupart de mes histoires des adresses que j’aime. Parmi mes préférées cette année, la Casa de Madrid, Awasi dans le désert d’Atacama, le Greenwich Hotel à NYC, un tas d’endroits en Angleterre pour le printemps, etc.

Il y a aussi un bel article que j’ai eu dans le Elle Décoration français.

Enfin, je vous souhaite une nouvelle année remplie de rêves et de folies, et surtout, surtout, je vous souhaite de vous tromper, souvent et énormément. Ce sera la preuve que vous avez poussé vos limites, que vous avez essayé des choses. Alors, trompez-vous encore et encore, cette année et toutes celles qui viennent !

This past week was a bit crazy because I had to leave for Shanghai to do a conference and sign my new book « World Tour »  (Louis Vuitton/Xavier Barral). It hasn’t beem translated to Chinese (but it is available in Japanese). We will see in time if the book comes out in Chinese. Nonetheless, this conference (in English) was a great experience. I will soon give you all the details.

Before that, I wrote several travel stories on Santiago, the city where I was born: its astonishing architecture, thanks to some of the major current architects; a lunch date with my friend Jean-Paul Gondonneau (Chilean of French origin) who told me about Chile and the ongoing economic situation which is globally very positive. The country is energetic, and it is great pride for me to see how well it is doing – although facing problems as everywhere else of course. We had a lovely lunch at Dona Tina (an address to check out). I had some cazuela and porotos granados, in short, food I had not eaten in years !

I also wrote about our national flower, the copihue, and how deeply touched I am everytime I see one. I also talked about the Santa Carolina wines, in which I have shares with friends. Life is incredible. I had no idea the French company in which I invested had wines in Chile ! For more information, check out the photographs and the Santa Carolina website. And if you leave for Santiago, do go visit the wine cellars dating back to 1875.

After that, I wrote two stories about memories. One on pisco sour (the Chilean local traditional drink) that my father used to make with scientific meticulousness as if preparing the hydrogen bomb! I added the receipe. The other story is about time passing and the wheel of life spinning, always bringing us back to our origins, one way or another.
I found two pictures of myself with 30 years of interval (ouch) and I thought that in this end of the year period when we’re more conscious of time flying, it was very much on the agenda. This blogpost came to me after an exchange with my Scottish mother. We were looking at dusty photo albums, and it was one of these always interesting talks we share, a cup of tea in hand.

As always, you will find in most of my writings addresses I love. Among my favorite this year: Casa de Madrid, Awasi in the Atacama desert, the Greenwich Hotel in NYC, and a whole lot other spots in England for Spring…

Overall, I wish you a new year filled with dreams and extravagance, but mostly, mostly, a lot of mistakes. This will be proof you pushed your boundaries, and tried new experiences. So, I wish you athousand mistakes, all great and stunning for this new year and all the ones to come!
